About American Arms

“I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.”

– Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, January 30, 1787

I’m Armistead Legge, founder of American Arms, and I believe America is a better place when there are more responsible, able, and educated gun owners.

My mission is to help you become part of that community by giving you clear, evidence-based advice on how to select, use, and enjoy firearms for self defense, hunting, target shooting, and fun.

I created American Arms for three simple reasons.

First and foremost, I’m an uncompromising supporter of the Second Amendment.

The Second Amendment states:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The fundamental purpose of this law is simple: to enable private citizens to prevent government tyranny and to protect themselves, their property, and those around them.

In a broader sense, it gives us the freedom and responsibility to defend ourselves with force against criminals in both public office and private life, if the circumstances call for it.

At American Arms, our stance on the Second Amendment is uncompromising. This means we believe that private citizens should have similar arms to soldiers and police.

“Arms” are weapons of offense or armor for defense and protection of the body.

Therefore, the Second Amendment guarantees your right to own, train with, and defend yourself with:

  • Semiautomatic guns (like AR-15s)
  • Fully automatic guns (like M4s)
  • Body armor
  • Pistols
  • Shotguns
  • Short-barreled rifles
  • Silencers

And any other weapon that gives a private citizen the fighting chance to defend themselves against a more powerful government or criminals who aren’t bound by the rules of society.

This is the clear, inarguable, lawful purpose of the Second Amendment, and it’s my goal to help you equip and train yourself to earn these freedoms and live up to these responsibilities.

Second, shooting is fun and I want more people to be able to enjoy this simple pleasure.

Sadly, the world of firearms is filled with jargon, bravado, and misinformation, which makes it difficult to dip your toe in the water if you’re unfamiliar with guns.

You won’t find any of that nonsense here.

All you’re going to get is proven, clear, evidence-based articles and podcasts on how guns work, how to pick the right guns and ammo for your goals, and how to become a better shooter.

Third, people fear what they don’t understand, and most people don’t understand guns. I want to change that.

If you’re in that camp, then I understand, I really do.

If no one ever showed you how a gun works or how to use one, or if you grew up in a city or country where they weren’t allowed, then how could you be expected to understand guns?

This is one of the reasons people tend to be so irrationally afraid of guns and angry at gun owners—they don’t know any better.

The good news is that guns are remarkably simple, and once you understand how they operate and how to use them, the fear, mystique, and confusion surrounding them quickly evaporates.

So, whether you’re a die-hard Second Amendment supporter or someone who’s lukewarm about even touching a gun, you’ll learn a lot from this site.

Here’s what you can expect from American Arms:

  • Beginner to advanced shooting drills for becoming a more accurate, effective, faster shooter.
  • In-depth guides on every kind of gun or ammo you can imagine.
  • Science-based reviews of rifles, pistols, shotguns, silencers, optics, night vision, and more.
  • Interviews with gun designers, hunters, soldiers, and policemen on the ins and outs of choosing and using guns and ammo.
  • The best customer service in the firearms industry.

If that sounds good to you, then I hope you stick around, enjoy my work, and use it to enjoy guns responsibly.

See you around,

Armistead Legge and the rest of the American Arms team.
